Now that we’ve announced our news and I’m 14 weeks along, I thought I’d share some bumps and wiggles from our first trimester! I’ve been carefully filling in the pregnancy journal I designed for this journey… and while I keep that one very detailed on paper (with room for a specific memory each day), I’ll recap some of it here:

1st Trimester Recap:

  • Who we told first (other than doctors): A coworker asked me outright at 6 weeks when I looked “deathly pale.” Then my two administrators when I needed time off, and then my good friend who attended a Mandt training with me early in my pregnancy (the instructors have to ask if anyone is pregnant so that we can sign a safety waiver).
  • Best moments for mom and dad: Finding out, seeing the heartbeat on that first ultrasound… always a relief!
  • Bumps for mom and dad: (Me) being constantly nauseous, fatigued, and craving fast food. (Hubby) seeing me so sick and not feeling well and knowing there’s not much to fix that, but helping out – and he does!

Doctor appointments and ultrasounds:

  • January: bloodwork and testing
  • February 4: First ultrasound at 6 weeks! Baby’s HR was 120 bpm. Confirmed that there is one baby. Physical done with more bloodwork for the nuchal ultrasound. Another {free} ultrasound because the doctor could not find the heartbeat right away. I was his first appointment of the day, so it was no big deal to take me in for a scan! HR was 178 at 10 weeks.
  • March: Dentist, nuchal ultrasound. Found out gender on March 10!

Week 4 Bumps & Wiggles:

  • Affirmations of pregnancy: hungry, cramps, oily skin
  • Emotions: easily irritable, snappy
  • Movement: severe cramping on left side (just like with my son), lots of popping on left side
  • Cravings: popcorn and PopTarts
  • Aversions: yogurt
  • Workouts: Disney 10k (6.1 miles), Disney Marathon (26.2 miles), 3 miles walking
  • Memories: Rode several roller coasters at Disney, including Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Space Mountain! Sorry, baby!
  • Crazy dreams and sleep patterns: Dreamed I tried to back a van over a runner at the Disney finish line…
  • Best moment this week: Finishing the Disney marathon and getting a positive pregnancy test!
  • Looking forward to: newborn-sized clothes!

Week 5 Bumps & Wiggles:

  • Affirmations of pregnancy: cramps on left side
  • Emotions: relief
  • Movement: popping and cramping
  • Cravings: popcorn, pizza, cheesy potatoes, grape juice, salad
  • Aversions: yogurt, sweets
  • Workouts: 30-min run, 20 min run
  • Crazy dreams: Having my own Disney Dole Whip soft-serve machine at camp and missing the wedding of a coworker (who’s been happily married for 25+ years)
  • Memories: 4 snow days this week!
  • Messages and prayers to baby: We told your brother about you this week and included you in his prayers. Now he always adds “and my baby” to the list of people for whom he is thankful.

Week 6 Bumps & Wiggles:

  • Crazy dreams and sleep patterns: up 1-2 times a night sick. Dreamed I registered for Shamrock Marathon (I did later) and that another family member is pregnant (I found out later that she is!)
  • Best moment this week: My son kissed the baby (on my belly), hugged my belly, and waved at the baby.
  • Message to baby: You are forming your nose, eyes, ears, chin, and cheeks this week – you are becoming the face I will always plaster with kisses!

I’m so impressed with how thoroughly you are documenting your pregnancy. It’s definitely fun to look back and read about later.

Thanks! My mom did it for me even though I was the 3rd child, so I’m trying to do the same! 🙂
